Author Interview - Bret Allen

Hello everyone! I am here today with my very first author interview!

Bret Allen is an author and a copywriter. His first published work, Strange Matters, is a collection of stories and poems, and they cover themes of magic, fantasy and myths. I came upon his website by chance and the fist thing that caught my eye was that he has worked in the video game industry as a writer. Being a gamer myself, this immediately sparked my attention. He was kind enough to answer a few of my questions regarding his work and his writing experiences. Keep reading to find out more about him!

The Devil Needed a Favor - pt. 2

I stared at the sign. All I could think was that how unbelievable this whole situation is. What need would the Devil have for this place?
“A gym?” I stammered. Of all places, the Devil needed a favor from me that involved the gym?
Wait, why would he need a gym in the first place?

The Devil Needed a Favor - pt. 1

I was 10 years old when my cat, Mr. Shooples got sick. I had it since it was a kitten. It was a gift from my late Grandpa. I adored Mr. Shooples. Every time I came home from school, the first thing I would do is find Mr. Shooples. He loved hiding in the most obscure corners and I enjoyed pulling him out either from behind the shelf in the pantry or from inside a tiny box pushed away at the back corner of the storage.

We had a good relationship going. Then I turned 10 and Mr. Shooples fell sick.

Finding Mickey: A Beginner's Guide

Believe me, this is one post you would want to read!

A week ago or so, I went to an event organized by Creative Edge, a company that publicizes on behalf of authors. There were 10 authors present, and it was lovely to meet them and listen to their readings of their books. I was feeling overwhelmed at the prospect of promoting and selling my own book, since I had no previous knowledge in this regard. I thought spending an evening with some local Calgarian authors would help me understand and navigate my future roads better.

Wordfest: An Evening with Arthur Slade

Wordfest, a most exciting literary festival in Calgary, is in full swing this week. Writers from Canada and abroad gather here to talk about their works, launch their new books, spend time talking and discussing all things bookish. In other words, Wordfest is a heaven and a haven for bookworms like me.
As a newly published author, I thought it should be appropriate and important for me to come out of my introvert shell and mingle with other fellow authors, and network with such individuals.

A Beautiful Aftermath

It has been a humbling yet exciting experience.

The past few months had been about editing, re-editing, checking spelling mistakes, lots of emails back and forth with Black Rose Writing, my publisher, and myself. Then there were decision making about the cover, looking over the inside design of the book, making sure I have thanked everyone properly, and that my dedication my perfectly written. My poor beloved husband made sure I was fed properly during this time, and that I hadn't gone insane from all the pressure and nervousness.

Its funny how life has a way of coming full circle,
Just not the way you wanted it to be.
You think you have reached the peak of the mountain,

Captain Shelly Manhar is ready to set sail!

(Keep reading for an excerpt from my latest book!)

A dream that I had for a long time is getting fulfilled soon, hopefully. I'm working hard on it, and with the help of Black Rose Writing publishers, I'll be reaching the end of the tunnel soon. I know that wonderful things lay ahead on this journey, and I am thankful to the Lord for bringing this day to me.
